CUPPING MASSAGE

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Cupping is essentially the inverse of typical massage therapy. Instead of exerting pressure on the different points of the body for healing, it uses suction to lift the skin, tissues, and muscles upwards. People get it for many purposes, including helping with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

PRE-NATAL/PREGNANCY

Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

RETRAINING YOUR SPINE

Long-standing spinal problems are accompanied by ingrained muscle patterns. Muscle spasms and scar tissue are often involved. By augmenting your chiropractic care with massage therapy, these muscle and soft tissue problems can be addressed. This can help speed your recovery and enhance the retraining of your spine.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

This is the most common type of massage therapy, referring to a combination of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles. The basic movements are effleurage (long, sweeping motions), petrissage (kneading and rolling), friction (deep pinpoint pressure), and tapotement (rhythmic tapping). Benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculoskeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

The scientific approach from the experienced massage therapists at Hayden Health and Wellness will affect your muscles and help to change your body’s structure and function. Alone or in combination with chiropractic care, massage therapy can help improve circulation and muscle tone. We recommend massage in combination with your chiropractic care. While chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and its impact on the nervous system, massage focuses on the 650 muscles of the body. Both disciplines work together to help keep the body in proper alignment, balance, and function. You are welcome to schedule whether or not you are a chiropractic patient at our office.

TRIGGER POINT MASSAGE

A trigger point is believed to be a localized spasm or knot in the muscle fiber that may cause pain to be referred to other, more distant parts of the body. Trigger Points are what many of us think of as “knots” the swollen achy cables of muscle that produce pain. Healthy muscle tissue is pliable and soft and underlying bony structures can be easily felt. A dysfunctional muscle by contrast has remained shortened and with time becomes ropy and tough to palpate, underlying bones may be difficult to distinguish.

TYPES OF MASSAGE

There are many different kinds of massage. They all involve systematically working the muscles and other soft tissues of the body to optimize the functioning of the various bodily systems. Massage can enhance your vitality and sense of well-being.
